Boston Thanksgiving Forecast: Sunny, Chilly Weather With No Expected Travel Issues
Boston residents can expect a holiday week filled with mixed weather conditions, starting with mild temperatures, followed by midweek rain, and ending with a cold but dry Thanksgiving Day, according to updated National Weather Service (NWS) projections. The upcoming days will bring a blend of sunshine, clouds, rainfall, windy conditions, and a sharp temperature drop as the week progresses.
Early Week Weather: Warm and Mild Conditions
Sunny Monday with Near-50° Highs
The week is set to begin on a pleasantly warm note. NWS meteorologist Kyle Pederson noted that Monday will feature sunny skies and unseasonably mild weather, with temperatures reaching close to 50 degrees. Clouds are expected to return during the evening hours.
Cloudy Tuesday with Slightly Higher Temperatures
Tuesday will continue the trend of mild conditions, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-50s. However, cloud cover will dominate most of the day. According to the NWS forecast, the next chance of rain will arrive by Tuesday night.
Midweek Outlook: Light Rain Before a Warm Peak
Rainfall Tuesday Night Into Wednesday
Pederson explained that the upcoming rainfall will not be a major storm system—just a brief round of showers from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. By midday Wednesday, the rain should taper off, leaving little to no impact on Thanksgiving travel across southern New England.
Warmest Day of the Week Expected Wednesday
With the rain moving out, Wednesday stands out as the warmest day of the week. Boston is expected to reach a high of around 60 degrees, offering a final burst of mild weather before a strong cold front arrives.
Thanksgiving Day: Colder, Windy, and Dry
Cold Front Brings Temperature Drop
On Thursday, temperatures will fall sharply as a cold front sweeps through the region. Highs will drop into the mid-40s, and Pederson emphasized that the front will also bring gusty winds.
Dry Holiday With Strong Wind Gusts
Although Thanksgiving Day will remain dry, the weather will feel noticeably colder due to winds reaching 20 to 30 miles per hour. With the wind chill, the mid-40s highs will feel more like the upper 30s, according to the NWS forecast.
Late Week Weather: Clear but Colder Conditions
Sunny Skies With Cold Temperatures
Heading into Friday and Saturday, the Boston area will experience mostly sunny skies but significantly colder temperatures. Highs will fall into the low 40s, and nighttime lows will dip into the 20s.
Gusty Winds Continue Into the Weekend
Strong, gusty winds will persist through the end of the week, keeping the region feeling chilly despite the sunshine.
